October 11-25, 1991: The Television Production jury of the 26th Chicago International Film Festival awarded Manick Sorcar's "Deepa & Rupa: A Fairy Tale From India" the Gold Plaque for the Children's Programs category, and the Silver Plaque for Animation category. "The competition was exceptionally strong and very creative this year which made the jury's job of choosing winners extremely difficult", wrote Michael J. Kutza, Founder and Artistic Director of the Chicago International Film Festival in a letter congratulating Manick Sorcar for the two awards.

 

The 33rd Annual International Film and TV Festival of New York:
(Silver Medal & Bronze Medal)

January 25, 1991: The jury of the 33rd Annual International Film and TV Festival of New York awarded Manick Sorcar's "Deepa & Rupa: A Fairy Tale From India" the Silver Medal for Computer Graphics and the Bronze Medal for Home Video Children's Program category. At this festival, Sorcar's "Deepa & Rupa" beat out Hanna Barbera's entry "The Greatest Adventure" and Children's Workshop's "Sesame Street" (see below).


The Council on International Nontheatrical Events:
(Golden Eagle)

1991: The Council on International Nontheatrical Events (CINE), Washington, D.C., awarded The Golden Eagle to Manick Sorcar for "Deepa & Rupa: A Fairy Tale From India", for its "excellence to represent the United States of America in international motion picture events abroad and awards to it".

 

The Heartland Regional Emmy Award:
(Nominations for three Emmy Awards)

The Colorado Chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences honored Manick Sorcar for his film "Deepa & Rupa: A Fairy Tale From India" in the Nomination for the 1990-1991 Heartland Regional Emmy Award in two categories: (1) Outstanding Youth/Children's Program, and (2) Outstanding Individual Craft: Animation. They also honored Piya Sorcar in the Nomination for the 1990-1991 Heartland Regional Emmy Award in the category of 'Outstanding Individual Craft: Acting/Performing.

 

The Columbus International Film and Video Festival:
(Honorable Mention)

October 25, 1990: The Film Council of Greater Columbus awarded The Honorable Mention in Children's Education category to Manick Sorcar for his film "Deepa & Rupa: A Fairy Tale From India", at the 38th Annual Columbus International Film and Video Festival, Columbus, Ohio, USA.

 

The Association of Visual Communicators:
(Cindy Award)

September 1990: The Association of Visual Communicators gave the Cindy Award to Manick Sorcar for 'Special Achievement in Art Direction and Special Effects' for his film "Deepa & Rupa: A Fairy Tale From India".
