April 25, 2002: On a personal invitation from Joanne
Osborn, Director of the Asian Chamber of Commerce, Manick Sorcar
was present at the Annual Function for "Take the Kid to Your
Work Day" as the Director in Person for his award winning film
"Deepa & Rupa: A Fairy Tale From
India". The film was the highlight of the show. Prior to
its screening he was introduced to the audience as the "distinguished
animation film maker, Colorado's own Manick Sorcar". After
the show, he was invited on stage again to take a question and answer
session with the packed audience.
"Deepa & Rupa" is the winner of over eight
international awards including the Gold Plaque at the Chicago
International Film Festival. It is India's first animation
mixed with live action, and is based on a children's story
from the State of Bengal. "The Woodcutter's
Daughter", also an animation mixed with live action (a
Finalist at the 40th New York Festivals), is followed by "The
Sage & The Mouse", a winner of the Gold Medal at the
International Film Festival of New York - both are based on popular
stories from The Panchatantra, the classic book of fables of India.
"Sniff" (Gandhabichar), which
received the prestigious C.I.N.E. Golden Eagle from Washington,
D.C, is based on a popular non-sense poem by Sukumar Ray (of "Abol
Tabol" fame). |
